Primary Purpose: Perform professional psychological work in assessment, behavior management, and counseling for students with emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, and behavioral problems. Assess the psychological and psycho-educational needs of students referred to special education services. Qualifications Education/Certification: • Master’s degree in psychology from an accredited college or university • Valid Texas license as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) or Trainee Status Letter issued by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP) Special Knowledge/Skills: • Knowledge of assessment procedures for academic, emotional, and behavioral functioning • Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management • Strong understanding of psychosocial development • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience: • Minimum of one year providing psychological services in an educational setting Major Responsibilities and Duties Assessment: • Administer assessments and observations to evaluate intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning • Determine eligibility for special education services per state and federal guidelines • Prepare evaluation reports and behavior management plans • Participate in ARD meetings to assist with IEP development and placement • May serve as case manager and coordinate the special education assessment process Consultation: • Meet with parents to review background information and results
• Provide individual and group counseling • Consult with teachers and staff on intervention plans and classroom supports • Collaborate with psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and community agencies • Conduct staff development training for identifying and supporting students with behavioral or emotional challenges Program Management: • Evaluate psychological services and make recommendations for improvement • Maintain accurate reports, records, and test inventories • Ensure compliance with all laws, policies, and procedures • May supervise interns or trainees (with a minimum of three years of experience) Other: • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
Notes: • The correct title is Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP). Only individuals meeting the requirements of Title 22 TAC §465.6 may use the title School Psychologist. • Trainees must work under supervision until licensure is confirmed by TSBEP. • Supervisors of interns must have three years of experience providing school psychological services. |
