Primary Purpose:
The Speech Language Pathology Assistant under the direct supervision of the Speech Language Pathologist, provides speech-language therapeutic intervention to reduce problems or impairments that interfere with their students’ ability to benefit from the educational program.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Education: Completion of Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Associate of Arts or Sciences degree from accredited training program.
Licensing: Licensed to practice as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant with active license in the state(s) in which employed and practices as applicable.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Consultation:
- Possesses the ability to maintain communication with all educational professionals.
- Possesses the ability to relay information with parents concerning their children and their need for assistance.
Program Management:
- Demonstrate the ability to provide information to school personnel and parents that will facilitate understanding of the speech assessment/ therapy.
Therapy:
- Knowledge of rehabilitation of speech, language, and hearing disabilities.
- Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with their goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP) under the direction of the licensed supervisor.
- Participate in determining student progress and readiness for termination of therapy services.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom based activities to improve oral and written language skills of students under the direction of the licensed supervisor.
- Attend regularly scheduled speech therapy meetings
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.
- Conduct duties within the required timelines.
- Implement the Individual Education Plan designed by the licensed speech-language pathologist
- Implementation of appropriate plans for treatment for mastery of set goals
- Collection and documentation of data, which validates progress toward goals
Communication:
- Assist parents and students regarding speech and language strategies.
- Assist the special education department in assigned duties.
- Exhibits good judgment in decision making and problem solving.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate with groups or individuals in an effective manner.

- Attends campus and/or department meetings: Willingly attends inservice, department and/or campus meetings, districts meetings, and professional meetings. Is attentive, courteous, and professional at meetings.
- Complies with district policies, administrative regulations and campus guidelines: Adheres to board policies, administrative guidelines, and personnel handbook. Follows and supports district, campus, and/or departmental decisions.
- Submits records, reports, and forms accurately and on time: Keeps accurate records, reports, and forms as required by district and campus policy. Turns in records and reports in a timely manner.
- Makes every effort to be at work: Makes every effort to be in attendance at work and is punctual to work, to assigned duties, and to other school district activities. Misses fewer than 10 days for non-school district related activities, except for approved leave of absence; no evidence of pay dock.
- Dresses in a professional manner: Dresses professionally and within district dress code.
- Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other required documents to include but not limited to inputting daily session notes, progress reports, and maintaining documentation for Medicaid Billing, as necessary, into the Cooperative informational management system. ·
- Maintains provider eligibility as required by Federal/state guidelines for Medicaid reimbursement
Administration:
- Supports established administrative policies and directives.
- Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
